Patience

Just had a dream where i was standing at a Y intersection of a dusty trail in the middle of a desert. The heat beating down on me like fists covered in dried cement, pounding at my head and back as i stood indecisive of where i wanted to go. A gentleman clad in black with a cane and a hat approached me and said, "What are you waiting for?" I turned my head to him and replied, "someone." He merely replied, "Why?" I had no answer, and i knew not to think on it, i just had to wait. "Well," he started to say, "I've got to get going. Which way are you heading? Maybe we could walk together." "Maybe we're going seperate ways" I replied. "Well, its a 50/50 chance-" "25" i said. "There's only 2 ways to go." "There's 3: Left, Right, and I can back track." "Then that's 33%" "And then i could make my own way." He laughed, and said, "That's why i like you. Your a fucking Idiot." As he walked past me he turned back to get a last glance, his form changed. He was beastly, fiery fangs and blood pouring out of his mouth. Hunched over with a tail that cracked against my face. But i stood there, waiting. And i dare not question why. I just know I had to.

Eventually i walked off the trail, wandered a bit. I came across a coyote exhausted from the heat. He tried to growl at me but fell to the floor, panting, whimpering, baking in the sun. Opened a canteen and poured water in my hand pouring it in its mouth, though there wasn't much left in the canteen. I started to walk away but realized i had to take it with me. So i carried it away and wandered the desert while the the coyote lapped its tongue against my arm as i carried it; hopefully to refuge and not desolation.

-I'm reminded of a story about a blues player who sat at a crossroads and sold his soul to the devil to play better.
-I've heard if a coyote is caught in a trap, its mate will go to a creek and soak its fur in water. staying by their side till they manage to get out or pass away. If the latter, they wander around aimlessly till they die. a bit extreme but its what i was told once long ago.
